Submissions

Sustainability has become a defining paradigm for research, business, and policy. Yet, despite its prominence, sustainability is increasingly at a crossroads: on the one hand, it is an essential guiding principle for securing our social, environmental, and economic future; on the other, it risks being diluted into a buzzword amidst competing priorities, crises, and pressures for short-term gains.

The 2026 WK Nama fall conference invites submissions that critically and constructively engage with the challenges, tensions, and opportunities of sustainability management at this decisive juncture. We seek contributions that explore how sustainability can be redefined, strengthened, or reimagined to remain both scientifically rigorous and practically impactful. Furthermore, submissions from the field of sustainability management that do not directly relate to the conference theme are also welcome!

We encourage submissions that address (but are not limited to) the following themes:

  • Tensions between economic, social, and ecological sustainability goals
  • Sustainability trade-offs, paradoxes, and dilemmas in management practice
  • New frameworks for measuring and assessing sustainability impact
  • The role of innovation, digitalization, and technology in shaping sustainable futures
  • Stakeholder engagement and power dynamics in sustainability transitions
  • Global challenges, local responses, and cross-cultural perspectives on sustainability
  • Path dependencies, resistance to change, and opportunities for transformative action

We welcome empirical, conceptual, and methodological contributions from diverse disciplines. Join us in exploring whether sustainability will remain a transformative force or risk losing momentum at this critical crossroads. Submissions from the field of sustainability management that do not directly relate to the conference theme are also welcome!

  • Submissions are in the form of (extended) abstracts using the conference template. Download the template here and add the last name of the corresponding author as well as a short title to the file name before submitting. Submissions not using the template will not be considered.
  • Submissions are possible for topics in the realm of the main conference theme and beyond (as long as there is a clear connection to the topic of sustainability management).

Submission deadline for extended abstracts is the 30th of June 2026. Submit your abstracts using the above mentioned template to "janine.allenbacher(at)hhu.de" (with CC to “nama2026@hhu.de”).

Submission and registration are handled separately. Thus, remember to register for the conference by August 15, 2026, in order to participate. Registration and participation in the conference is also possible without submitting an extended abstract. However, at least one author must register for a presentation. Contributions without at least one registered author will be removed from the program.

Submissions to the junior faculty colloquium are handled separately (see below)!
